WTF Does A Network Admin Do

My six month review went really well. My company loves me to death and is very afraid of losing me. Job security makes me happy.

My company has agreed to pay for me to go back to school for a degree in computer programming and for any certifications I take. In two years my professional portfolio should look something like CIS Associate Degrees in programming and networking, three years of experience as a Network Administrator, and certifications in Network+, A+, and MCSA - enough to get me to a $60,000-80,000 salary. If I can manage a CCNA certification it will add another $10,000 on to that.

I guess I am on the track to success - nothing in my way, no one to hold me back.

This is how I pictured my life. Even back in the dark days I knew this would be how my life would turn out. No one else had any faith, but at least I knew.

Network Administrator: routers, Cisco, Windows 2003 Server, Linux, UNIX, switches, VPNs, VLANs, SQL, JBoss, PHP, DNS, DHCP, Apache, J2EE, JRE, Exchange, Outlook, IIS, 802.11, 100 Mbps. This is my life. I am glad I did not get a four year degree - it would not have been as fun.
